Mission 242:

Planting a church for the city.

Acts 2:42 says that the early Christians were devoted. Devotion is much more than a simple commitment – it means to hold fast, to persevere, to continue faithfully. We have a dream to be a devoted community of followers of Jesus.

Purpose and Dreams

The purpose of Mission 242 is to plant a new church with the mission to be a community  devoted to Jesus, working together toward wholeness and living as change-agents in Waldo and Brookside.

A Community:

We highly value Christian community. As followers of Jesus, we realize that we need each other to for friendship, encouragement, and accountability. Because of this, our primary expression of ‘church’ is through mission groups. These groups meet regularly for friendship, Bible study, and mission and service in the community.

Devoted to Jesus:

Jesus is the foundation for our lives and everything we do. Jesus’ death and resurrection are sufficient to save us from our sins and from lives of brokenness and despair. And the life of Jesus as recorded in the Bible is our model for living today. We desire to model our entire lives (not just part) after Jesus. Everything we do as a church is determined through the lens of Jesus.

Working together toward wholeness:

As followers of Jesus, we want our lives to be transformed by Jesus in all facets – physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual. Working together in community, then, we hope for transformation to happen in all areas of our lives. Plus, we believe that through Jesus, God has begun to bring the whole world back to shalom, or wholeness. As agents of God’s kingdom, we partner together to bring wholeness to our community, our city, and creation.

Living as change-agents in Waldo and Brookside:

We believe that God has called us specifically to Waldo and Brookside. As a result, our primary ministry will take place here. We have a passion to see the people of Waldo and Brookside transformed by Jesus, and for the community to be transformed by our love and work.

We are also devoted to being a...

Parish Church:

A church in and for our immediate community.

Missionary Church:

A people being sent out on a mission to our community.

Incarnational Church:

Living among the people we are serving.

The dream of Mission 242 is to be a reproducing church, sending members to plant neighborhood churches all over the Kansas City metroplex.
